The collapse of Nemrut Volcano has created one of the largest craters in the world, which nowadays has become an attractive place for recreation and tourism. The project site offers a 360° panoramic view of the caldera, where is settled the second largest crater lake worldwide, and a perfect view of Lake Van on the external part of the volcano. The project ‘A Walk Beyond the Edge’ aims at establishing a structure that would provide a memorable and breathtaking experience by giving the opportunity to appreciate the magnificent beauty of landscape in an exceptional way, beyond any limits.
The concept of the project has its focus on reaching a visual perception even beyond the panoramic view that one has when simply standing on the edge by offering an extraordinary way of observing the landscape. The line of the footbridge turns at the top to provide a compelling finale of the journey which has started from the ski lift. In order to expand the the visitor’s viewpoint, a cantilevered structure is introduced which allows a view also from above the volcano.
To achieve a view even from a higher altitude the path continues onto a ramp leading to the top of the construction, creating a shelter underneath. The platform takes the visitor on a walk above the caldera, offering different points of view of the landscape, both in height and in plan. The experience is even enhanced with the feeling of “levitating”,coming from the see-through flooring achieved using steel grid. During night solar led light strips are activated, making it possible to distinguish the platform from a distance.
